Our original announcements, 2019
NAGAO’S CLOSURE AND UPCOMING RETIREMENT
Thank You for 22 Years.
After decades of service, Nagao, the owner-chef, has announced his retirement and we closed our doors.
Over the past 22 years, it has been an honor for us all to share our passion for sushi with you and the many patrons that have come through our doors.
The space at Nagao has been purchased by a well-known LA restauranteur, who will remodel and reopen the space under a new name in 2020. The new concept will be operated by a world-class team and will focus creating a memorable sushi experience for all of our guests. They look forward to serving you in this new year.
Thank you for all the heartfelt memories and support.
FILM SHOOT (COMPLETE): SUNDAY JULY 14, 2019. 6PM - 9PM.
NAGAO: A DOCUMENTARY
As you may know Nagao will soon be leaving LA to start a new chapter of his life in Japan. And while many of us have known for years the pleasure of dining at Nagao, most don’t know the important and historic role he has played in LA’s Global Sushi Revolution.
To honor his legacy, a dedicated group of long-time Nagao fans (who happen to be documentary filmmakers) will be telling this story.
Please join us on Sunday, July 14 as on this day we’ll be filming Nagao with his loyal customers, friends, and followers. The restaurant will be open as usual and this is your opportunity to tell us what he means to you, on camera - so he can remember us and we can remember him.
About Page
"Kansha"
In 1997, Nagao was established. Its vision has remained unchanged: to provide the best of Japanese cuisine to the Brentwood community and beyond.
The words kansha and arigatou are carved into the wooden boards that hang behind the chefs. In Japan, these words are used to convey gratitude and respect.
We serve our customers under these words because everyday, we are grateful to our customers, to you, for giving us the opportunity to share our culture.

KONOHANA SUSHI
50 Years. Still the Original.
Over 50 years ago, Akio Murata founded Konohana Sushi (この花寿司) in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Through the decades Murata has maintained the traditional practices of sushi preparation of Hyakumangoku. Utilizing seasonal ingredients of the region, Konohana serves dishes one can find only in Kanazawa.
In the 1960's, Murata's young nephew, Toru Nagao, watched his uncle's delicate craft day by day. Inspired to emulate his uncle's art, Nagao traveled to Tokyo to pursue a culinary career. Now, decades later, Nagao shares what he has learned, as well as his own developments on the art, in our restaurant here in Los Angeles.
If you ever find yourself in Kanazawa, we welcome you to join us where the family legacy began.
